1Passwd 2.1 Brings Support For NetNewsWire Browser
1Passwd version 2.1 was released today sporting a new logo, NetNewsWire support and a tonne of new features and improvements. This is a free upgrade to everyone, including winners of the MacHeist event.
NetNewsWire Integration
By popular demand we added 1Passwd’s password management features to NetNewsWire. Users of the most popular RSS reader can now access all the power of 1Passwd’s password management features without needing to leave the built-in NetNewsWire browser.
Automatic Local Backups of Keychain
With thousands of users, we often get questions about restoring accidently deleted keychain entries and forgotten passwords (most often immediately following it being changed), and deletion of entire keychain files.
There is nothing we could do to restore these items or passwords (due to the high encryption), but we thought a safety net could help our users out of these problems when they occur.
The 1Passwd keychain is now automatically backed-up every day to the ~/Library/Keychains/backup directory. Up to a maximum of 31 copies will be kept before the oldest ones are removed.
Of course regular backups to remote storage is still important to prevent data loss, but we think this safety net would protect our users from possible heart break.
AutoSave Exclusion Rules
AutoSave is a very convenient feature that saves your time, but sometimes you don’t want it enabled for specific websites. The new AutoSave exclusion list will allow you to disable AutoSave for specific websites, while continuing to leave AutoSave enabled.
Help Spread the Word and Improve 1Passwd
As always, please let us know how to improve and feel free to leave your feedback here in the forum as well as MacUpdate and VersionTracker websites.
BTW - there are only 140 people on iUseThis that told the world they are using 1Passwd. We know there’s more people using it than that, so please cast your vote! :)

Wow, awesome release! The bookmarks thing is really well done; I was a little worried about that.
The icon is a bit confusing since both locks look like their closed. I think there should only be one lock.
I wish this release was the one in MacHeist.:)

You wouldn’t believe it but the line 2 says: This is a free upgrade to everyone, including winners of the MacHeist event. So you’re in luck if you’re a MacHeister.. This is an impressive update on an already impressive app. Jeez, these guys certainly know how to improve things. The only thing I wish for is support for international languages, or at least the option to rename formfields for an identity. Love the WebKit Contextual Menu btw. What a great addition. :)

great job, guys – version 2.1 is very nice! it looks a lot cleaner and I really like the NNW integration.
You’re doing a fantastic job with 1Passwd, it’s worth every penny of the price!

> The bookmarks thing is really well done; I was a little worried about that.
Us too :)
Actually, the bookmarks aren’t done yet. We have the beginnings of our longterm idea, but you’ll see some massive improvements soon.
> The icon is a bit confusing since both locks look like their closed.
We like the idea of the icon, but there is certainly something that can be done to improve it. We’re just not sure what (yet).

Upgrade for free :)

> I wish for is support for international languages
Us too! Do you know Cocoa? :D
Seriously though: we’re looking into adding a mapping file that will allow you and other users to help us improve AutoFill on non-English sites.
Version 2.2 is already full, but we’ll certainly be adding this in the new year.
> Love the WebKit Contextual Menu btw.
Thanks! I had not planned to add it b/c I like the FF toolbar, but it was a regular suggestion in the forum so Roustem added it to all the WebKit browsers.
Now I have to get to work on adding it to Firefox :)

> I really like the NNW integration.
You can thank Roustem for that; I was a Vienna user. But now that 1P supports NNW, I’ll need to switch :)
> YouâÂÂre doing a fantastic job with 1Passwd, itâÂÂs worth every penny of the price!
Hey, thanks!

Very cool! Thanks, David.

Very good, to see how a tiny but very important piece of software still can be done better!! Thanks.
The new logo also nicely done!!
But what’s confusing – at least here to me in Germany. The key position
vertical for closed
horiontal for open
Most commen used here in any lock, its’s vice versa… So when the logo shows “open” the horizontal direction, looks more like a bar “it’s closed, don’t pass!”
just my 2 EuroCent,

actually, it’s not working with the most current release of netnewswire, sorry…is there a fix coming? it doesn’t appear anywhere, no visible option or anything to use it…

> itâÂÂs not working with the most current release of netnewswire
The latest version should be working fine (there was a tiny window where we only had NNW 2.1 support, but we fixed it to support 2.1.1).
BTW – in NNW 1Passwd adds itself to the context menu instead of the toolbar.

what a useful app..thank you!
*will you support Shiira? i know lots of people that are using it..also even just a context menu will be most helpful.
thanks again for a great app.

*i’ve got 1passwd version 2.1.3744 – i don’t see the icon for 1passwd in netnewswire though…and i don’t see an update in the app, and i’m still not seeing it in nnw = could you explain exactly what i should be doing besides installing and checking the preferences to make sure nnw is installed?
thanks! i love this app!

Dave, first make sure you enabled NNW integration in 1Passwd’s preferences. Second, note that it does not add a button, but rather adds a right-click menu option. I’m guessing they found they couldn’t customize the NNW button set so easily.

BTW, Dave and Roustem, a big thank-you for the NNW integration. I was thinking of heading over to the forums and adding a features request for it, only to find you guys did it already. :)
1Passwd is an amazing little application. Really one of my favorites on OS X. It’s revolutionized how I manage passwords.

Re: Shiira, I want to add support for that lovely looking beast, but it has been in beta for a very long time—for over 4 months the home page ‘blog’ entries haven’t been updated. It looks dead.
Dave: re: your NNW problem, contact me directly if Janak’s response didn’t fix the problem.

love the update well done. but I miss the old icon and button used in the browser. I have no idea what I am looking at with the new icons and look.
It would be great if in preferences you could choose which look you wanted old or new for the global icon look and feel.
thanks for the update you guys have done a great job.

I got this app after watching ScreencastsOnline, and have been loving it.
Btw, it would be nice to have support for Shiira!

Re. the icon. A suggestion to try: the key in the ignition thing doesn’t really work because it is too fore-shortened. A quick and easy fix MIGHT be to just have the key not in the ignition when the keychain is locked (as in the app icon before it is opened), and then insert the key when the keychain is unlocked. It would be more visually different. Logically it might work better too: after all, if the key is in the lock it’s as good as unlocked!
...or, maybe just forget the key in the ignition idea and use the icon of the key out of the ignition only, which is a beautifully done icon after all. It’s possible the whole key in the ignition thing, though a nice idea, may just be too complex visually for icons which need to be so small….you see why Apple has so succussfully used the padlock icon for this kind of thing—it’s simple and easily understandable to everyone.

it IS working- thanks! i see it clearly when i right click and now it saves me a crazy amount of time…
1passwd is a killer app imho…with the birth of so many web apps and social services requiring registration, tracking passwords is ridiculous…and fortunately for those of us regularly on the same machine, this it a utility that more than justifies itself…and of course it’s portable, which is nice…
for some generic services i’ve also used elgoog’s firefox browser synch, which works nicely but still concerns me (both ff’s own security with cross browser vulnerability and elgoog having all that info!)
