1Passwd 2.2 Released; includes Palm support

1Passwd version 2.2 was released today! This version is a free upgrade to all existing customers, including those who participated in MacHeist. To upgrade to 2.2, simply use the “Check for Updates” menu item from within the main 1Passwd application, or follow these instructions to update manually.
1Passwd Reader for Palm
Since we released version 0.8 of 1Passwd we’ve been getting requests from Palm users to add support for their platform. Many of these users wanted to generate strong passwords with 1Passwd, but needed a way to know their passwords while on the road.
With the new 1Passwd Reader for Palm you can take your keychain information with you where ever you go!
You can read up on this new application in our new User’s Guide: Full documentation for 1Passwd Reader for Palm. The new guide is still being worked on, but this will give you a taste of what it will be like.
Palm Reader is Free For Existing Customers
Starting in the New Year, the 1Passwd Reader for Palm will be sold separately for all new customers. For existing customers and anyone who buys before January 1st, 1Passwd Reader for Palm will be given away for free.
Consider this a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays present from Roustem and I. You can print off this blog entry and wrap it and put it under the tree, signed: “Love Dave & Roustem” :)

1Passwd Featured on Screen Casts Online
ScreenCastsOnline, the website hosted and produced by Don McAllister, provides great video tutorials for Mac users. The quality of work done by Don is outstanding.
1Passwd was recently featured on ScreenCastsOnline a few days ago. Don also made a special high-resolution video for us. You can also see the embedded version directly on this page. Note that it has slightly lower resolution compared to the link above:
If we want to keep a free license to the Palm reader, should MacHeist users buy a copy before the New Year?

It’s nice being able to have my passwords on my Palm Pilot, but couldn’t the program uses a better encryption method than RC4? The algorithm has known security problems and better methods should be available.

To: beirne Re: RC4 Strength
We felt that RC4 is very fast (important for handhelds) and strong enough for most applications. The problems found in RC4 were mostly related to the way it was implemented in WEP. I do not believe that the same exploit can be applied to 1Passwd application.
From RSA website:
http://www.rsasecurity.com/rsalabs/node.asp?id=2009
“1) In protocols such as WEP, it is often necessary to generate different RC4 keys from different messages (or packets) from a common base key. A method frequently suggested to obtain the keys is to add or concatenate a counter to the base key. The key-scheduling algorithm of RC4 has been widely recognized to be rather lightweight for this purpose, particularly when the initial few bytes of plaintext are easily predictable.”
“2) RC4 is most commonly used to protect Internet traffic using the SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) protocol. Indeed, this use of RC4 may make RC4 the most widely-used stream cipher in the world.”
Nevertheless, we will add support for a stronger encryption in one of the future versions.
