Roustem and I just released a new version of 1Passwd today: version 2.3.8. This is another 'minor' update that has quite a few new features.
As always, you can download the latest version from the website and update manually, or use the (preferred) built-in automatic updates to avoid any issues that can happen if the browsers aren't all closed.
Alright, onto the new stuff!
Ability to Name Autosaved Entries
Now when 1Passwd detects that a form should be saved (it contains a password and was not filled by 1P), you are prompted to provide a name for the form.
The intelligent default name is likely "good enough", but you can customize it to your liking. Many people prefer to use the generated Autosave name and would prefer not to be prompted. To do this, enable the "Save forms automatically" checkbox in the More Options section:
Password Generation Options
In the last release we added the ability to customize the generated password, such as length and allowed characters. The customization window would appear when the Option key was held. Many people didn't realize this and didn't know the password could even be customized.
We therefore changed the default setting so the customization window appears:
Additional settings can be found in the More Options section, including the ability to avoid ambiguous characters (useful if you need to read and write the password), as well as copy the password to the clipboard. Of course, if you don't like popups, you can make this window only appear when the Option key is held:
Updated Browser Versions
Camino 1.1 and DEVONagent 2.1 have been released and 1Passwd now supports these new versions. The new NetNewsWire 3 beta builds are also now supported.
Updated Unlock Keychain Window
In the last release many people found the unlock keychain window in the browser "too big", "overly HUGE", and even "scary!". We had decided to make the window very informative for new users, and it worked very well. However, for experienced users, the window was simply too large.
In this release we've hidden the informational message behind a disclosure button:
Going Forward
We are nearing the release of version 2.4; it is only a few weeks away and will be making some massive improvements. I don't want to give too much away, but one of the new features will help the automatic form filling algorithm become much more effective. We will be continuing the form filler algorithm improvements in version 2.5, but the 2.4 updates will provide a much needed stepping stone.
Likely we will have a 2.3.9 bug fix release in the interim, but 2.4 is nearly here. Stay tuned! I have said it before, but it doesn't hurt to repeat something so important: Mac Users Are The Best!!
Look at these amazing comments we've gotten since the 2.3.8 release:

- Dave & Friends, Love the programs. (Jan L.)

- Again, I think this is a great product. It really gives me peace of mind knowing that my passwords are all protected so that if either one of my computers were stolen, I'd be in good shape. (Bob B.)
