1Password 2.6.3 Released

1Password 2.6.3 is now available! It has been just over a month since our last release and so we have been able to squeeze a lot of new goodies into this release!

Below are the highlights of this new version, and at the very bottom you can find the detailed Release Notes.

As always, you can grab the latest version from the downloads page, but the fastest and smoothest way to upgrade is to use the built in updater. Simply select 1Password > Check for Updates... and follow the instructions.

New Autosave Slide Down

The old Autosave popup window was nice as it allowed you to save Logins directly after you logged into a web site. The only thorn was that it was a modal window, meaning that you needed to dismiss the window before the web site could continue loading.

With the old approach, if you were unsure if the login details were correct, you could not wait for the site to load first, and then save once you saw the login was successful.

Chad has a treat for us in this release that completely resolves this issue. Now when 1Password detects that a Login should be saved, a slide down strip will appear across the top of the window:

This slide down does not block the site from loading, so you can wait to see if the login is correct before deciding to save the new Login.

Note that this new Autosave window is currently only available in Safari and OmniWeb. In a future release Chad will add support for the other browsers.

Password Generator Improvements

The UI of the Password Generator has been refreshed:

Along with the new UI, you can now access the Password Generator feature from directly within 1Password:

New Copy to clipboard features

This release adds the ability to copy selected 1Password objects to the clipboard as text. Pasting this text back into 1Password will create a new item.

Command-C, Command-V, and Command-X keyboard shortcuts are all available and behave how you would expect. For example, objects can now be moved between folders using Command-X, selecting the new folder, and then pressing Command-V.

New Check For Updates

The new Check for Updates window adds support for multiple download sites and an 'inline' progress indicator allowing users to read the Release Notes while the update is being downloaded.

New Unlocking Behavior

A significant change has been made to how 1Password and web browsers become unlocked. In this release, 1Password and web browsers will now unlock independently, meaning each time you start 1Password or a web browser, you will need to unlock your 1Password keychain before using it.

Full details on the rationale for this change can be found in this forum thread.

Will Firefox have similar slide down UI as the one on Safari?

@evanhindra: Absolutely! It is just taking more time. We wanted to get this release out before WWDC and Firefox didn't make the cutoff.

great job again, I'm trying Firefox3 at office (no macs here) and I liked the way it allows passwords to be saved. so this new 1pass feature is highly welcome. :] hopefully today iPhone will be announced for Italy too so I'm looking forward to see the new 1p for this device. as usual, thanks for the great support. have a nice day, Lock
